Ministry of Commerce: Hong Kong Becomes the Largest Import Source of Trade in Se

Wang Chao, Assistant Minister of Commerce, said on July 8 that the trade in service between Hong Kong and the Mainland developed rapidly; Hong Kong maintained to be the Mainland’s largest export destination of trade in service last year, and exceeded the EU for the first time becoming the Mainland’s largest import source of trade in services.
Wang Chao said at the opening ceremony of the 3rd China (Hong Kong) International Trade in Service Fair that under the severe impact of financial crisis, the trade in service between the Mainland and Hong Kong still maintained remarkable growth last year, reaching USD68.16b. The Mainland’s exports of trade in service to Hong Kong was USD41.9b, accounting for 28.6% of the Mainland’s total exports of trade in service, up 35.1% year-on-year; the Mainland’s imports of trade in service from Hong Kong was USD26.28b, accounting for 16.6% of the Mainland’s total imports of trade in service, up 28.1% year-on-year. Hong Kong surpassed the EU last year, becoming the Mainland’s largest import source for the first time.
